The Sewing House

For our 2021 project, received over 150 beautiful quilt blocks for
our Quilts of Valor® (QOV) initiative!

If you would like to donate quilt blocks, we collect them throughout the
year. In October, quilt assembly begins and quilts are presented to
recipients on or around Veterans Day each November.

Read on to learn about the quilt block specifications and how we invite you

to help!

In October 2021, a group of four team captains volunteered to
organize quilters to assemble the donated blocks into beautiful quilts.
As a shop, we helped to provide fabric, backing, batting, labels, and
longarm services along with the assistance of community partners. It
is an honor to be a part of a presentation of quilts to Veterans and
service members touched by war!
We are so appreciative of everyone who made such beautiful blocks in 2021.
We’re already gathering blocks for our 2022 project!

Please consider being part of one of 4 teams that will turn blocks into quilts in
2022. Click the sign-up button below and we’ll keep in touch.

We also invite you to join our Facebook group:

The Sewing House Quilts of Valor Volunteers!

Thank you all for being so generous with your time and talents!

Block-making details:

  • Block sizes can be 8″, 10″ or 12″
  • Fabric quality – must be 100% quality cotton fabrics.
  • Patriotic fabrics are best (please stick to Red, White, and Blue toned fabrics)
  • We’re partial to stars but blocks can be any design suitable for a patriotic quilt.
  • Things to avoid – Please do not use juvenile fabrics or branded fabrics in the blocks.
  • Donation deadline – We aim to reach our annual 100+ block goal by Sept. 30th. After that date, we start collecting for the next year’s 100 block drive.
  • Quilt Block Assembly – Block donors are invited to assemble quilts with us in October each year (4 team captains organize this effort.)
  • Quilting Guilds – If your quilting guild would like to donate completed quilts, we’d love to have them! These 8 beautiful quilts below were donated by the Millington Quilting Guild – such a generous donation!

A Quilt of Valor (QOV) is a quality, handmade quilt that is machine or hand quilted.
It is awarded to a service member or a Veteran who has been touched by war.

The Quilt says unequivocally,

“Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our nation.”

Quilt Recipients – The QOV nomination process

If you know a Veteran or service member who has been touched by war and would like to submit a nomination for them to receive a quilt, please visit the QOV website to submit a nomination form HERE

We are humbled by the generosity and talent of our many QOV volunteers and will continue this mission to provide donated quilts. Quilts = Healing!

Thank you for your interest in honoring Veterans and service members!

We’d love your suggestions, questions, or feedback –
and please share with your sewing and quilting friends!
